24 Hours to choose a new government

Tomorrow, Britain faces its most important General Election for a generation. We need to use every second that remains to tell voters about the choice they face. Our message is clear:

  • Only by voting Conservative tomorrow will you get a new government that starts cleaning up the mess on Friday.
  • A vote for the Lib Dems is a vote for five more years of Gordon Brown.
  • Labour only offer more of the same – and their desperate campaign is designed to scare families, older people and the vulnerable.
  • The Liberal Democrats’ policies for an immigration amnesty, to scrap prison sentences under six months, keep Labour’s jobs tax and join the euro would damage Britain.

From day one, we will start to fulfil our no nonsense, no frills contract with the British people – to cut the waste, sort out the welfare mess, improve front line services and deliver change for the better. We won’t leave the poorest and the most vulnerable behind, because we’re all in this together.

If we don’t do these things, you should vote us out in five years’ time.  A Conservative Government will be accountable to you.

Vote for Change

If you want to be sure of a clean break from the past and a new Government on Friday, vote Conservative on Thursday.

Labour only offer more of the same – their desperate campaign is designed to scare families, older people and the vulnerable.

Recent days have shown the Liberal Democrats’ policies on immigration, crime and the economy would damage Britain.

From Friday, we will get to work to fulfil our contract with the British people – to get the economy moving, improve front line services and move the country forward.

We won’t leave the poorest and the vulnerable behind because we’re all in this together.

The Choice at this election

In this election we’ve got the right argument on the economy – that Labour’s jobs tax will kill the recovery, so we’ve got to cut Labour’s waste to stop it. And we’ve got the big idea for the future of our country. Labour’s big government has failed – it’s time to build the Big Society.

There is a huge choice in this election – one that affects the life of every man, woman and child in this country. It’s a choice between five more years of Gordon Brown’s tired government making things worse. Or change with the Conservatives – who have the energy, leadership and values to get Britain moving again.

Who are the Conservatives are fighting for?
We are fighting this election for the Great Ignored. Young, old, rich, poor, black, white, gay, straight. They start businesses, operate factories, teach our children, clean the streets, grow our food and keep us healthy – keep us safe.  They work hard, pay their taxes, obey the law. They’re good, decent people – they’re the people of Britain and they just want a reason to believe that anything is still possible in our country. This election is about giving them that reason, giving them that hope.  That’s the Conservatives’ mission for the next 30 days and we can’t wait to get started.

Don’t forget that the re-election of a Labour government with more debt, waste and taxes will bring us a new recession. Labour will kill the recovery with their tax on jobs – so we’ll cut Labour waste to stop it.  7 out of 10 working people will be better off with the Conservatives. We will also cut Labour’s debt to stop higher interest rates and your mortgage going up.

To Gillian Merron

Dear Miss Merron,

I am writing to you in light of recent revelations that the Labour Party and its Prospective Parliamentary Candidates have received millions of pounds in funding from the trade union, Unite.

Unite is currently calling for a major strike against British Airways, causing turmoil at one of Britain’s largest companies and threatening maximum disruption to passengers, both business and families due to embark on holidays and trips over the Easter period.

Since Gordon Brown became Prime Minister, Unite has spent more than £11 million of its members’ money boosting its influence within the Labour Party – providing one quarter of all your Party’s income. On top of this, Unite’s political director, Charlie Whelan, is a key election adviser to the Prime Minister, and a disgraced ‘former spin doctor’.

Given the scale of the damage that Unite wants to inflict, it is only fair that the public knows the truth and you come clean about Unite’s relationship with your campaign in Lincoln and the Labour Party.   I have ten simple questions for you:

  1. Are you a member of Unite?
  2. Has your campaign received any funding from Unite?
  3. How much cash (or leaflets or other campaign assistance) have you received?
  4. What parts of your campaign has Unite paid for?
  5. Do you support Unite’s decision to strike against BA, which will damage British business and ruin thousands of people’s holiday plans?
  6. Will you take any money from Unite while the BA strike is going on?
  7. Do you think it is right that Unite can pay for its employees to have special access to Downing Street?
  8. Do you believe it is right that Charlie Whelan is a close adviser of Gordon Brown but leading a strike that is going to do great damage to business and the country?
  9. Will you call on the Labour Party to stop taking any more cash from Unite?
  10. Do you support Unite’s policies to oppose making public services work better?

These are questions that need answers urgently and they deserve to be in the public domain.  As you will see I have copied this letter publically and would be quite happy for you to reply in a similar manner.

The Labour Party under Gordon Brown is becoming more and more reliant on the unions. This means that the Labour Party cannot speak out or act to prevent strikes and industrial action like those at British Airways because they are dependent on the very same unions to fund their election campaigns, it is a sorry state of affairs and as a former Union Organiser perhaps you are uniquely placed in being able to allow the people of Lincoln a valuable insight into your thoughts on this issue?

Yours sincerely,

Karl McCartney
Lincoln’s Conservative PPC

David Cameron will clean up politics

The last Government ended with scandals like ‘cash for access’ – and Gordon Brown’s Government is ending with scandals that are, if anything, worse. To get real change, and to clean up politics, we need a change of government. Five more years of Gordon Brown won’t make any difference.

We need a proper inquiry into the activities of the former Labour Ministers. If their actions were serious enough to strip former Ministers of the party whip, surely it’s serious enough for an inquiry?

David Cameron spelt out today how a Conservative Government would clean up politics by getting to grips with lobbying – an issue he highlighted several weeks ago.

  • We’re going to make absolutely sure that ex-Ministers are not allowed to use the contacts and knowledge gained in government for their own private gain.
  • We’ll double the time when it’s forbidden for ex-Ministers to lobby government from twelve months to two years.
  • We’ll extend to ten years the period during which ex-Ministers must seek advice from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments.
  • We’ll put that Committee on a statutory basis, so ignoring its advice will be an offence.

The first task of an incoming government will be to instruct the Prime Minister’s advisor on the Ministerial Code to undertake a full review of this episode so that the government can learn the lessons of what has gone wrong, and change the rules to stop it happening again. Importantly, we have also got to put a stop to the practice of one part of government lobbying another part of government.

The biggest risk to recovery is five more years of Gordon Brown

At the election, voters face a clear choice on the economy.  Five more years of Gordon Brown’s debt, waste and taxes will put the recovery at risk.  David Cameron and the Conservatives will get Britain working for everyone by boosting enterprise.
Yesterday’s figures showed that in February alone, Labour borrowed more than central government spends in a year on police and immigration.  Labour are racking up debt at the rate of over £300,000 a minute. We can’t go on like this. Labour’s debt crisis is the biggest risk to the recovery. Business leaders and the City agree with us that we urgently need a credible plan to start getting the deficit down this year in order to protect our credit rating and keep interest rates lower for longer.

Poem from the Norwich North By-Election

After the recent Norwich North win for the Conservatives the following poem appeared penned by Gwyn Hands.

Norwich North by-Election

23rd July 2009

The Tories have triumphed in Norwich North
And now their candidate will go forth
To take up her seat on the back bench
For Labour it must be quite a wrench

They failed to hang onto this seat
It will be seen as a crushing defeat
Everyone feels that Gordon Brown
Has badly let this country down

Oh Gordon this is not great news
Others are waiting to fill your shoes
You’re only Prime Minister by default
Don’t you think it’s time to call a halt

You would not be occupying that chair
But for the resignation of Tony Blair
The public did not get a voice
To be honest you were Hobson’s choice

Come on, admit it, you’re feeling the heat
You’ve outstayed your welcome in Downing Street
So pack your bags and give Darling a bell
And tell him to make sure that he’s ready as well

You’re bound to suffer the ultimate rejection
You might as well announce the next election
Then maybe others can start to repair
The damage you’ve caused while you’ve been there

Gwyn Hands

Do you want to help the city in which you live?

Have you ever thought you could do a better job than the people tasked with running the City of Lincoln? If so, why not consider becoming a Conservative Candidate for the 2010 City Council Elections?

The Lincoln Conservative Association has now started the process of choosing the eleven Conservative Candidates to fight the elections on 6th May 2010. To make the selection of Local Government candidates clearer the Board of the Conservative Party has approved standard application forms for all candidates to complete as the first stage of the selection process. If you would like to be considered please complete an Application Form (Word Document) along with the document that details the procedures (PDF Document). Once completed, the application forms are to be returned to the Association’s registered address ‘1A Farrier Road, Lincoln LN6 3RU’ before the end of October 2009.

We look forward to hearing from all those who think they have the aptitude and ability to serve the people of the City of Lincoln by becoming a Conservative candidate.

Election Results – June 2009

Results from June 4th 2009

Results from June 4th 2009

The results from the elections held on 4th June 2009 show a dramatic increase in the number of seats the Conservatives now hold on the County Council. We have secured a further 15 seats and now hold 60 of the 77 seats on the Council. Interesting figures from the election show a 4.2% increase in support for us compared to a 9.2% decrease for Labour who were the main casualty losing 17 of the seats they had before they election to leave them in joint 3rd place behind the Liberal Democrats with the Lincolnshire Independents.

A full breakdown of the results has been published on Lincolnshire County Council’s web site.
